Broadening diversity through creative involvement to identify research priorities

Abstract Background Patient and public involvement (PPI) can help with steering shaping research prioritisation execution. However, some groups of people may not be encouraged to take part their voices seldom listened in the production research. This is important consider because they have poorer healthcare experiences. We tried using art as a vehicle for including individuals necessarily invited priority setting. Methods contacted existing organisations reach routinely supported PPI. targeted individuals: a) dementia, b) mental physical health condition, c) South Asian heritage. ran workshop each group at which shared experiences healthcare. A young amateur artist also attended, who produced piece artwork afterwards that reflected priorities raised. held Twitter chat discuss these pieces processes involved generation. Results From workshop, we list priorities. These included: improving coordination care information needs anxiety/guilt around accessing conditions, supporting discussion women’s issues communities. were three art, viewed online. Feedback from those workshops suggested helped them feel voice had been heard triggered interest how developed. Conclusions found medium an effective way approach useful future PPI, building on what learnt project described this paper.
